4th International Lake Tourism Conference - Field Trip Information |
Field Trip Information
Two field trips will be organised as part of the Conference programme: - An evening trip on Monday 22nd June to Thunder Bay and environs to view tourism and recreation opportunities in the area.
- A full-day trip (Wednesday 24th June) in the Nipigon-Red Rock area to explore potential opportunities for the development of indigenous and nature-based lake tourism experiences. This trip will include a visit to the Lake Superior Marine Conservation Area.
Participants should come prepared for the likely weather and environmental conditions in the north in June. Please bring a small backpack, rain gear, stout shoes for walking in the bush, sun cream, sun glasses, hat, insect repellent and long pants. |

Water is an essential aesthetic and recreational element that attracts millions of people worldwide especially during their leisure time. Coastal and marine tourism play an important role in the global tourism business but there are also a number of well-known lake tourism destinations. Interestingly, however, compared with coastal or mountain tourism, for example, lakes are still a relatively unknown entity as far as academic tourism research is concerned.
